Greater Cincinnati #6 in the Nation for Business Expansion

This is great news for us! While the region is pretty big (15 counties, presumably this refers to the Cincinnati-Middletown Consolidated Metropolitan Statistical Area) it's positive news that needs to be played up.

Duke Energy Customer Service

Since the City sold its (our) streetlights to Duke Energy, using the City's Customer Service system/online Service Request process only refers requests for streetlight repair to Duke and the City washes its hand of the matter (I referred a problem 3 months ago and followed up a short time ago).

Cut to the chase: go here and request a repair, or tree trimming, or other Duke Energy-related service.

Note: for some reason Duke wants you to have an account to report a street light out, so have your bill handy for reporting this information, or just call them at the listed number.

Hillside Steps Inventory 2006-2009

Following is a sumary of the state of East Price Hill's Hillside Steps as inventoried by the City's Department of Transportation & Engineering. Red-shaded text indicates a change in status from Open to Closed within the past three years. Yellow-shaded text indicates an inspection that is reflected in the 2009 inventory as an update from the 2006 inventory. It is a little distressing that three sets of steps were allowed to fall into such disrepair as to necessitate their closure and that three other sets have degraded in condition from Excellent to Good (2) or Good to Fair. However, I have seen new handrails installed on #317 (Peerless Street, presumably one of those "paper streets") so hopefully this will be formally re-opened since it certainly is in use.

It is interesting that the new and old closures have been removed from the inventory; how many more of these assets have been abandoned by the City and airbrushed from our neighborhood's history in this manner?

EPHIA in the news

Price Hill Press published a great story about the work EPHIA is doing alongside our fellow organizations, stakeholders and neighborhood investors: read it here.

You may recall the CCA was merged into Cincinnati's Internal Audit function; this links to its July-December 2009 report.

Home Electronics Recycling Dropoff/Drive

This by way of Greener Stock:

Have you ever wondered how to properly dispose of your broken or outdated electronics? We did, so...

Just in time for the spring cleaning season, GREENER STOCK is hosting a Home Electronics Recycling Drive on Saturday, March 13, 2010 from 11 AM until 2 PM at 3528 Columbia Parkway (45226). Drop off the following items for FREE*: TVs, computers (monitors, CPUs, keyboards, mice), audio/video equipment, phones, and gaming consoles.

Recycling services will be provided by Global Environmental Services (GES), one of only 34 e-recyclers in the world that is e-Stewardship accredited. If reuse of parts is not feasible, then every item is broken down, and the original parts are returned back to the manufacturing stream. E-stewardship accreditation ensures that parts are not sent to the landfill or exported to third world countries for dumping (have you seen the CBS/60 Minutes report? http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=4586903n ). Because GES believes in providing its clients with the highest level of security, they use only auditable, EPA-compliant, downstream partners who adhere to their charter as a zero landfill electronics recycler. All GES downstream partners are transparent, creditable, and auditable.

GREENER STOCK is a local company committed to providing building materials, design services, and resources to help people in greater Cincinnati create earth-friendly and healthy interior environments.

For more information about Global Environmental Services and their commitment to the environment, please visit their website, www.GESRecycles.com.

* Computer monitors and some TVs will be assessed a $5 fee
